BCAR – improving implementation and management of building design and construction

The Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014 came into effect on 1 March 2014, putting in place a set of legal requirements relating to the construction of new buildings, extensions and the renovation of existing buildings. These regulations were introduced due to a series of high profile cases involving inadequate design, defective materials and certification problems. Crucially, the legislation puts in place a framework which guarantees improvements in the way building design and construction is managed and implemented, allowing expert professionals greater control of inspection and providing a chain of responsibility throughout the design and construction process.
